Home on the range? No thanks.

Well, I survived 1846 and, just like the last time we did this trip, I came home with a great love of all things 21st century. Y'know all those old pictures where no one looks at all happy? I know I've heard that it's because it was the "style" for pictures to be serious. Uh.. bullshit. Those people were exhausted and miserable most of the time.

Sure, they were maybe in better shape than I am, what with having walked all the way across the country and working farms and all, but seriously, it would take something grand to make you feel like smiling if you had to live that life everyday.

The day was great (other than the fact that it was 94 degrees and we were all in long sleeves and long dresses and petticoats - well, not the boys - because that is what they wore in 1846. Crazy people. I am sure it wasn't any cooler in the Sacramento Valley in 1846 than it is now. (Yea, okay, Al Gore, maybe a little, but certainly not enough to justify long sleeves.) But everyone toughed it out, even the trappers who were dressed, head to toe, in leather. The kids powered through and actually complained a lot less than I would have expected.

Somehow, I came home with a cold. And while I am well aware of the fact that weather does not cause illnesses, it just always seems wrong to end up sick when it's not cold outside.

I hope it's a quick one because we leave for Disneyland after work tomorrow. And I feel pretty lame for complaining about having to go to Disneyland because, you know, it's Disneyland... the most magical place on earth. But I'm tired and my my feet hurt from my stupid pioneer shoes and about the last thing I feel like doing is more walking.

But it's Shoe's band trip and we went to see Elle perform last year and we are nothing if not "fair", so we'll make the trek. And I'm sure we'll have fun. How could we not? It's Disneyland!

Yea, that's my mantra right now.
