Living history and dental detail...

Tomorrow morning I leave for 24 hours in 1846... which is great... the kids have been looking forward to this trip all year and we've put TONS of work into getting it all together. It's just that I have 21st century issues that won't go away just because I'm pretending it's the 19th century.

On Thursday, I broke a tooth. Today, I got a temporary crown, but there had been a pretty big filling in that tooth already, so there was more drilling, I guess, than there otherwise would have needed to be. The dentist (who, god help me is just so flippin' hot I can barely stand it) told me to keep the advil going every 6ish hours around the clock for the next couple of days.

Unfortunately, he also told me to pay close attention to the sort of pain I'm having. Aching gums, although painful, fine and totally normal. Any tooth pain could be a sign of damage to the nerve and signal a need for root canal.

So now, of course, I am paranoid.

Every twinge of anything and I start attempting to remember what it felt like when the nerve in my previously-root-canaled-tooth started to go bad. I do NOT want to go through that again.

That said, if you don't already own an iPod and require any sort of drill work in your mouth, stop reading right now and go get yourself an iPod. Seriously. I'll wait.

There is nothing... NOthing... better during noisy dental procedures than REALLY FREAKING LOUD THRASHY MUSIC pumped straight into your head. If only there were a way to cover up the disgusting smell of burning tooth. Ick.

At least I didn't have to go to the dentist in 1848...
